4 Tips to Follow When You Need a Blog Topic

Have you ever had a week where you just have so much trouble thinking of a blog topic?  While it would seem as if there’s always something to write about, sometimes it’s hard to think of a new topic for your blog. Getting out of this writer’s block isn’t easy. We’ve compiled a list of some tips to help your creative juices flow for your next blog post.

4 Tips to Follow When You Need a Blog Topic ContentBacon1. Step away from the technology

While retaining focus is important for writing a great blog post, walking away from the task at hand can also be beneficial. Often, the best blog posts stem from ideas that were generated away from technology. Take time away from your computer and tablet and reflect on your journey so far. What have you learned from your company? What can you teach others? Your audience wants something personal that they can relate to; by internalizing the blogging process you can find some great content to share.

2. Look at your competition

The best way to determine what content your audience wants to engage with is to look at your competitors. If you’re not getting the followers you want, it’s most likely because those followers are receiving content from your competitors. Figure out which posts are most popular on your competitors’ pages and brainstorm how you can create content based off of these topics. You already know these topics are popular because your competitors found success with them. Now you just have to put your own spin on it to attract followers to your page.

3. Develop an outline

Once you have a topic, there are a million ideas running through your head before you write your post. All of these ideas are sure to be great, but if they’re not organized in a comprehensive manner your audience will get confused. Making an outline before you write your blog post can allow you to organize your thoughts and fill in the gaps where you see fit. It will make sure your post is easy to understand by your followers.

4. Engage with your audience

If the steps above haven’t worked, talk to your current audience. Engage with them and ask them what they would like to see in your blog posts. You should start asking questions at the end of your posts and see who comments. Listen to what they’re saying and take it into consideration when writing your next post.

We all get writer’s block. Even the best marketers and writers have trouble thinking of topics to relay to their audience. Just remember that staring at a computer all day may not be the best use of your time. Think about what you wished you knew before you started the process of creating your own business. It’s topics like these that will attract more readers and bring success to your blog. Do you have any other tips we didn’t think of?
